Year 2 of Creating Your Best Decade Ever

Your next decade can simply happen to you…
or YOU can happen to it.

Our 2nd year together will have a very specific theme. It can permeate and shape every thought we have, everything we do, every judgment we make and every relationship we create.

The theme for BDE Year Two is PLAY

Author and researcher Stuart Brown puts it this way:

“By definition, play is purposeless, all-consuming, and fun. But, play is anything but trivial. It is a biological drive as integral to our health as sleep or nutrition. We are designed by nature to flourish through play.”

We believe the concept of PLAY invokes other aspects of living…words like this come to mind:

Leisure, recreation, humor, vacation, adventure, flow, carnality, generosity, community, curiosity, forgiveness, surprise, passion, unpredictability, spontaneity, simplicity, independence, creativity, philanthropy, joy, serenity, unbridled enthusiasm and grace!

Abraham Maslow spent a lot of time studying and researching what made some people seem to be more special.

He coined the phrase “Self-Actualization” which most people think is just about “Self-respect, self-love or self-awareness”.

Not quite. His research turned up 15 Key Traits of people who seemed to have an entirely different view of the world…of life…of others and of themselves.

And one clear pattern you can see in all of these traits is an element of PLAYFULNESS.

In Year Two of our Best Decade Ever we are going to be exploring these traits within YOU.

We’ll be helping each other to see and embrace the parts of us that make every facet of life feel playful, inviting, and joyous…even the “hard stuff”!

Becoming “Self-Actualized” is a journey, not a destination. It’s process of consistently choosing a frame of mind and perspective that leads to MORE connection, love and joy instead of less.

We want to grow with you in developing the mental, emotional and spiritual “muscles” needed to make it not just a “habit”, but an IDENTITY you feel strongly and naturally connected to.

One-by-one, month-by-month we will be diving into each trait and help to unleash it within you!

Here is something else we believe.

A year of play should also include a year of GIVING. Generosity is a key part of a playful person’s life.

So, answer this. Who do you want to help?

  • We came up with an idea for us to give something back as a group.
  • What if we set aside 10% of the monthly BDE payments for a “BDE Giving Pool”?
  • What if every month, one of us gets to spend that in any way, anywhere, for anyone he chooses?
  • What if he returned to our group and told the story of who he helped and why?
  • It’s not a “life-changing” amount of money, but it’s meaningful and impactful.
  • We love the idea of our group having an impact on our communities in some way…and this is a good start.

We Will Do…

  • We’ll be meeting monthly for up to two hours.
  • We’ll continue offering you reading assignments and challenges.
  • We will schedule routine one-on-one calls with each of you to maintain personal connections.
  • We’ll continue moderating and participating in our Whatsapp group.
  • We’ll co-create with you the 2026 Rendezvous Adventure.
