There’s a certain kind of man who looks like he’s doing fine from the outside.
He’s responsible. He works hard. He takes care of people. He keeps the bills paid, the family moving, the business running and the problems handled.
But inside, something feels flat.
He knows he’s not as confident as he used to be. He knows he’s holding back in conversations. He knows he’s become too careful, too tense, too reactive, or too disconnected from the man he really wants to be.
That’s where a lot of men are when they start thinking about something like a men’s retreat.
Not because they want to run away to the woods and chant around a fire. Not because they’re broken. Not because they need someone to teach them how to be a man.
They come because something inside them knows there has to be more than just grinding through life, doing the right thing, and quietly losing touch with themselves.
In this video, Steve and I talk about the retreats we run at Good Guys 2 Great Men, why they matter so much, and what makes them different from ordinary coaching calls, books, videos or conversations with your wife.
Because there are some things you can only learn with other men.
You can read about confidence. You can listen to podcasts about masculine energy. You can understand every concept in your head and still freeze up when life hits you in the chest.
A retreat gives you something different.
It gives you a room full of men who are not impressed by your résumé, your money, your success, your excuses or your carefully polished version of yourself. They’re interested in the real you. The man underneath the performance. The man who wants to stop pretending everything is fine and start living with more honesty, courage and heart.
That can feel uncomfortable at first.
Most men are used to keeping things together. We’re used to being useful. We’re used to being the man other people lean on. We’re not used to sitting with other men and saying, “Here’s where I’m struggling. Here’s where I feel scared. Here’s where I’ve lost trust in myself. Here’s what I want and I don’t know how to create it.”
But when a man finally tells the truth in a room full of good men, something changes.
He stops feeling so alone.
He starts to realize he’s not the only one who feels confused in his marriage, disconnected from his purpose, unsure how to lead, or tired of carrying so much weight without anyone really seeing him.
And then something else happens.
He gets challenged.
Not shamed. Not judged. Not fixed. Challenged.
A good men’s retreat does not let you hide behind your old story. It does not let you keep blaming your wife, your past, your circumstances or your personality. It helps you see where you are giving your power away, where you are avoiding your truth, and where you are waiting for life to give you permission to become the man you already know you could be.
That’s what we mean when we talk about developing masculine confidence.
It’s not about becoming louder, harder, colder or more dominant. It’s not about learning a few tricks to get your wife to respond differently. It’s not about pretending you don’t care.
It’s about becoming solid.
It’s about knowing who you are, what you stand for, what you want, and how to stay open-hearted when life gets messy. That phrase, open-hearted leader, matters to us because a lot of men think they have to choose between being strong and being loving.
You don’t.
The men your wife, your kids, your business and your own soul can trust are the men who know how to stay connected to their heart without collapsing into neediness. They can feel deeply without becoming unstable. They can lead without controlling. They can listen without losing themselves.
That is not something most of us were taught as boys.
We were taught to win, provide, protect, perform and figure it out. Some of that helped us. Some of it also cut us off from the very things that make us powerful, present and alive.
A retreat helps you reconnect those pieces.
You get out of your normal environment. You step away from the noise, the obligations and the patterns you keep repeating. You spend time with men who are doing the same work, asking the same hard questions, and refusing to stay asleep in their own lives.
And when you return home, you don’t just have another idea in your head.
You have a different felt sense of yourself.
You may feel calmer. Clearer. More grounded. More honest. More willing to speak the truth. More able to love without chasing. More able to lead without demanding. More able to look your wife in the eyes, not as a man begging for approval, but as a man who is finally coming home to himself.
That’s why we run these retreats.
Because we’ve seen what happens when a man stops trying to do this work alone.
Stop doing this alone
If you know your confidence has taken a hit and you’re tired of trying to think your way back to strength, we’d be glad to talk with you. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you reach out — you just need to be willing to tell the truth and take the next step.
